AVC: It has drawn criticism for presenting what some have called a “Daily Mail take” on things—that it’s tabloid fear-mongering.
MC: That was exactly the reaction. Because one of the things is that if you’re a Socialist newspaper, well, the Socialists have been in power for 12 years, and these are the very poorest people in England, and this is what’s happened to them. So you’ve got to say it’s a load of crap. [Laughs.]
Well played, sir. Well played.
There are many things wrong with socialism, but a central problem—one that undercuts the chief argument in its favor—is that socialism hurts those lowest on the economic ladder, the very people socialism claims to help. Look at the unemployment rate in socialist countries in Europe, or in Barack Obama’s socialist America, and tell me how social justice requires that we enact socialist policies to “help” those less fortunate than ourselves.
