Here’s a nifty animation showing the disappearance of jobs over the past two years. Two observations: (1) Texas is largely immune, which is why it’s difficult for us to get a sense of the condition of the rest of the country, and maybe part of the reason that successionist sentiment is on the rise—why are you guys saddling us with YOUR problems? (Of course, the main reason is simply that Texans want to preserve their vision of America as a land of individual freedom and opportunity; if the rest of the U.S. is willing to give that up, so much the worse for them, but at least Texas can remain true to it.) (2) Starting in November, it’s the blue states on the coasts that take the biggest hit. Poetic justice in that, I think.
