The Obama campaign is denying that Sarah Palin stopped the bridge to nowhere, calling her claim to have done so a lie. The New Republic has jumped in to agree, without bothering to offer any argument or even explanation. John Hinderaker does a nice job of replying. As far as I can tell, the Democrats’ point comes down to this: Palin supported the bridge project while running for Governor, but then stopped it as Governor when it became a focus of national attention. I hate to have to explain it to them, but that doesn’t contradict the claim that she stopped it—it entails it.
Even the Democratic Party of Alaska credits Palin with stopping the bridge.
