It’s Palin!

John McCain has selected Alaska’s governor, Sarah Palin, to be his running mate.

I think this is a brilliant pick on several levels. First, Sarah Palin is a strong conservative. She will reassure and excite those in the Republican base who have been less than enthusiastic in their support of McCain. Second, she’s an outstanding candidate in her own right, with real accomplishments that make those of Barack Obama look puny. Third, she’s a fresh face; she makes it impossible for the Democrats to paint the Republican ticket as old, tired, and more of the same. Fourth, she’s a woman—one with a more impressive resume than Hillary, not to mention Obama—who should have a strong appeal to Hillary primary voters.

Note, by the way, that this photograph is aligned right.

  1. The Dems have at once trotted out the detractors; e.g. Schumer, “She’s inexperienced.” Let’s think about that criticism, for a moment. Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas. . . . . . . . Obama has never had anything like the responsibility of governing a state. Jimmy Carter was governor of . . . . (whoops). The fact is that Palin has more hands-on governing experience than Obama.

She’s also a better choice than Michael Palin. But not better than Paladin. Have gun, will travel!

    Hey, there’s a campaign slogan:

    Have Palin, Will Travel.

  2. The even more unexperienced is Obama all he has ever done is run for president. He has spent virtuously all of his time in office running for president.

  3. Delighted at the Palin pick! She’s a newish governor, but one with a very impressive record of success in office, unlike Obama who has done nothing but climb the political ladder out of self-regard and self-interest.

This is also a bold move which I feel injects some excitement into the McCain campaign. I was so afraid it was going to be two old white men running against pretty, young Obama. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but it wouldn’t have woken people up like this will.
